Brandon Bowersox-Johnson
36:34
Note: It's really a challenge to recruit/retain solid staff when we might only have 3-6 months of solid sustainability!
Jake Watson (DIAL)
37:41
Curious about the numbe of products represented on the call, and which ones
Jake Watson (DIAL)

I think a landscape map would be very helpful since many of the projects are synergistic, or even co-dependent on other projects. Some are alternatives to one another. Is there a map like that?
Wayan Vota
44:47
Scott, see facilitymatch.net
Scott Teesdale
45:11
Thanks
Wayan Vota
45:19
can we ask a Q before we get to Resonace?
Amanda BenDor
45:51
Let' save questions for later - please go ahead and type question here.
Tony Tony Shannon
46:01
@andrew-kanter, check this landscape outhttps://landscape.cncf.io/license=open-source
Wayan Vota
46:22
She just said they’re handing off LMIS to a 3rd party. need to dig into that decision
Tony Tony Shannon
46:24
shows the huge cloud based landscape for open platform components, heavily funded
Wayan Vota
47:14
I don’t need Resonance marketing
Andrew Kanter
47:20
@tony. that
Andrew Kanter
47:42
is overwhelming! Anything health sector focused?
Wayan Vota
48:35
DIAL historically hasn’t looked at health solutions @Andrew. They give that to DS
Tony Tony Shannon
48:41
@andrew - its huge -all generic to be usable across sector which is key to some of this solution to the sustainability challenge
Maguette
49:26
@Andrew, check the Digital Health Atlas, could be useful per your needs
Tony Tony Shannon
49:30
the global goods sustainability chaellenge needs to be understood in the wider context of open platform sustainability
Tony Tony Shannon
50:13
ref: the global platform coop movement which is having the very same conversations
Tony Tony Shannon
50:14

Yaw
51:54
All this sounds not inexpensive. Who funded this work? And what was the order of magnitude in cost.
Wayan Vota
52:38
@Yaw to get to where we all have been for years
Johan Sæbø University of Oslo
55:14
Who exactly would be the ideal 3rd party that would take over openLMIS?
Emily
57:47
Hi, wondering if this will be RECORDED and available after today? Thanks!
Yaw
58:08
What’s the governance plan for ensuring OpenLMIS continues to serve it’s initial customers, and not just what the private sector has to do…
Brian Taliesin
58:10
@Johan, we have the output from our recent community meeting in Jo'burg and can share the "must haves" they had in the handover partner.
Johan Sæbø University of Oslo
58:21
What will happen to the existing openLMIS implementations? Will these countries have to pay?
Johan Sæbø University of Oslo
58:31
@Brian thanks!
Tony Tony Shannon
59:01
my sense is that if you pick apart the openLMIS architecture you could identify a set of components that many other projects need/use (identification, fhir, reporting, notification etc)So why not look to collaborate with others to reduce the cost/effort of maintaining your own components? That is one way to share the sustainability challenge
Tony Tony Shannon
59:37
*in fact afaik openLMIS has already done some of that analysis
Brian Taliesin
59:59
@Yaw, out of our existing governance committee, we have a working group that will be measuring different attributes of partners and providing a recommendation.
Jake Watson (DIAL)
01:00:00
@Tony — YES
Jake Watson (DIAL)
01:01:14
DIAL’s OSC’s future state model considers the potential of economies of scale, especially with hard-to-fund resources like DevOps, UX, etc.
Kim Couri
01:01:17
Agreed - there is a great opportunity to collaborate and share this load, @Tony @Jake!
stevenwanyee
01:01:44
s option 2 then basically creating a “premium” version of the global good managed by a private entity while still keen to main the community version off the revenues from the premium version?
Jake Watson (DIAL)
01:02:15
Also, pls see https://digitalimpactalliance.org/research/sdg-digital-investment-framework/
Brian Taliesin
01:03:26
@Steven, a "premium" version with additional features for private health is something we've investigated. It may still be a way to go, but that may be the decision of the future partner.
Tony Tony Shannon
01:03:46
thanks @Jake, would be good to see the detail of the OSC model there, but aimed in right direction
stevenwanyee
01:04:01
Thanks @Brian

01:06:58
Someone mentioned about implementers contributing back to core which is probably what everyone here with a GG does/has been doing. At the Bahmni coalition, majority of the implementers who have picked up Bahmnni are servicing private markets with clear “sustainable” revenue regenerative business models. We are now working out how these implementers can contribute back to core especially because they are making reliable revenues from Bahmni. Different from public sector where the implementers who the core depends on fully depend on dwindling funding
Amanda BenDor
01:07:11
I like this call out on mixing types of thinking!
Emily
01:08:08
Will a recording of this be available after today?
Wayan Vota
01:08:55
Wow. not sure it came through in my voice, but this is HUGE. I thought OpenLMIS was ahead of us all, but it’s really telling that founding orgs don’t see it as a revenue generating, or even break-even proposition and therefore want to offload it on others.
Amanda BenDor
01:09:26
Yes the recording will be available
Wayan Vota
01:09:50
what does this say about the rest of us who don’t have Gates/USAID seed funds or a major USAID investment in the very process we’re serving
Yaw
01:10:30
@Wayan I don’t think any of us a pathway to success. And it’s not for a lack of trying.
Brandon Bowersox-Johnson
01:11:46
@Wayan and @Yaw, I hope Digital Square might create a working group where we can hear more of other Global Good's thinking and status on this.
Andrew Kanter
01:12:01
Thanks everyone!'
Scott Teesdale
01:12:18
+1 for what Yaw said
Wayan Vota
01:12:32
@yaw depends on your version of success, but overall, agreed
Andrew Kanter
01:12:37
Nice to hear from you, Brian, Emily! :)
Yaw
01:12:55
@Brandon Sure, but I dunno how many more working groups we need to discuss sustainability :)
Wayan Vota
01:12:59
@brandon don’t need a working group
Scott Teesdale
01:13:05
I would
Yaw
01:13:24
If we took all the money spent discussing sustainability and paid for some projects, we’d be sustainable
Brian Taliesin
01:13:33
@Andy, the same and look forward to reconnecting!
sollis
01:13:37
:)
Scott Teesdale
01:13:43
Ha
Wes Brown
01:14:17
It would be great to think about this problem from a more general perspective… it seems like our sustainability options are much greater (and have more likelihood to succeed) if we all work on this together
Ed Duffus
01:14:33
Crazy idea: don't sustain global goods, implement them
Wayan Vota
01:14:38
yaw with the best quote
Yaw
01:15:11
All I want for my project that is used in literally every country is the sandwich budget for one global development conference.
Yaw
01:15:54
That said, I’m optimistic we’ll find a way forward :)
Ed Duffus
01:16:08
I'll pass on the sandwich for you Yaw!
Ed Duffus
01:16:24
I'm fasting anyway
